Moving nutraCoster 3.0 to a Different Computer

These instructions describe how to transfer your nutraCoster program and data from one computer to another.
When you successfully move nutraCoster, you will not need an activation key, and all of your data (ingredients, recipes, nutrition, etc.) will be transferred to the new computer.
nutraCoster is licensed for installation on a single computer. When you move nutraCoster to a different computer, you must remove the nutraCoster program and data from the original computer.
These instructions cover the following situations.
- You are running nutraCoster on a single computer and want to move it to another computer.
- You want to move nutraCoster from a workstation to your server.
- You want to move nutraCoster from one server to a different server.
- You want to allow another workstation to access your existing copy of nutraCoster.
Moving nutraCoster from a single computer or server to another computer or server
Overview (details below)
There are 3 ways you can move nutraCoster to a different computer.
Method 1 is the preferred technique.
Method 1 - Prepare for Move (preferred) (revision 87 and later)
- On the old computer, use Prepare For Move.
- Copy the entire Coster3 folder to the new computer.
- Run nutraCoster Setup on the new computer.
- On the old computer, use Backup Database.
- Run nutraCoster Setup on the new computer.
- On the new computer, use Restore From Backup.
- On the old computer, use Export Recipes/Formulas.
- Run nutraCoster Setup on the new computer.
- On the new computer, use Import Recipes/Formulas.
Detailed Instructions
Method 1 is the preferred technique.
Method 1 - Prepare for Move (preferred) (revision 87 and later)

On the old computer, choose Maintenance, Data Recovery, Shrink Log File from the menu.
- This will reduce the size of the Coster3 folder before moving.
- On the old computer, choose Help, Prepare For Move from the menu.

Copy the entire Coster3 folder to the new computer.
- You can find the location of the Coster3 folder by right-clicking the nutraCoster 3.0 shortcut on your desktop and choosing Properties. Look at the Target field in the Shortcut tab.
- The Coster3 folder might contain a sub-folder called Backup. This folder can be quite large, and cause the copy procedure to take a long time. You can exclude this folder when you copy Coster3.

Run nutraCoster Setup on the new computer.
- Be sure to install nutraCoster into the new Coster3 folder.
- Do NOT Upgrade or Reinstall anything.
Method 2 - Backup and Restore

On the old computer, back up the nutraCoster data.
- Choose Maintenance, Data Recovery, Back Up Database from the menu. This procedure creates a single-file backup.
- Specify the folder where you want to store the backup file. The folder must be on the computer that is acting as the nutraCoster server (the computer where the Coster3 folder is located).
- Run nutraCoster Setup on the new computer. Activate nutraCoster using your original activation key.

On the new computer, restore from backup.
- Transfer the backup file to the new compuer.
- Choose Maintenance, Data Recovery, Restore Database from Backup from the menu.
Method 3 - Export and Import

On the old computer, export all of your recipes.
- Choose Maintenance, Import/Export, Export Recipes/Formulas from the menu. This procedure creates a single-file export.
- Specify the folder where you want to store the export file.
- Include Nutrition
- Include Overhead if you have entered Overhead information.
- Export Type: nutraCoster 3.0
- Click Select Recipes/Formulas.
- Click Select All, then click Export.
- Run nutraCoster Setup on the new computer. Activate nutraCoster using your original activation key.

On the new computer, import your recipes.
- Transfer the export file to the new computer.
- Choose Maintenance, Import/Export, Import Recipes/Formulas from the menu.
- Import From nutraCoster 3.0 and specify the location of the export file. Click OK.

Use the following Import settings:
- If Recipe Already Exists: Replace Existing Recipe with Imported Recipe.
- If Item Already Exists: Update All Data.
- Replace Existing Labor Classes with Imported Labor Classes.
- Import Overhead: Remove All Existing Overhead - Replace with Imported Overhead.
After successful transfer
After you are confident that you have transferred nutraCoster successfully, you must remove nutraCoster from the old computer. Failure to do so is a violation of your user license.
Moving nutraCoster from a workstation to your server
- Follow the instructions above for moving nutraCoster from a single computer to another computer.
- From each workstation, follow the workstation setup instructions in the nutraCoster Network Installation article.
After you are confident that you have transferred nutraCoster successfully, you must delete the COSTER3 folder from the original workstation. Failure to do so is a violation of your user license.
Allowing another workstation to access your existing copy of nutraCoster
- Make sure the COSTER3 folder on your existing copy of nutraCoster is visible on the network, either by sharing the COSTER3 folder or one of its parent folders or drives.
- From the new workstation, follow the workstation setup instructions in the nutraCoster Network Installation article.
