nutraCoster 3.0 - Transferring Data Between Desktop and Cloud Versions

nutraCoster 3.0 Desktop Version and nutraCoster 3.0 Cloud Version use identical databases. The difference is whether the data is stored on your local computer/network or in the cloud.

These instructions describe how to transfer data between the 2 versions.

Transferring Data from Desktop Version to Cloud Version

Method 1 - Back Up and Restore

This method transfers your entire database from the desktop version to the cloud version. Any data you have in the cloud version is replaced with the data from the dekstop verion.

This method is recommended when first setting up the cloud version.

Note: This method can be used to transfer data from desktop version to cloud version, but not from cloud version to desktop version.

  1. Back up the data from the desktop version.

    This procedure creates a single-file backup with file extension .bak.

    • In the desktop version choose Maintenance, Data Recovery, Back Up Database from the menu.
    • Specify a location to save the backup file.

  2. Restore from backup in the cloud version.

    Warning: This procedure replaces all of your existing cloud data. You will lose any existing information.

    • In the cloud version choose Maintenace, Data Recovery, Restore From Backup from the menu.
    • Specify the location of the backup file.

Method 2 - Export and Import

This method transfers some or all of your recipes/formulas, some or all of your menus, and all of the related data.

This method can be used in either direction - from desktop version to cloud version, or from cloud version to desktop version.

This procedure creates a single-file export with file extension .xml.

If you also include pictures and source documents, export creates a second file with file extension .zip.

  1. Export data from the desktop version.
    • To export recipes/formulas choose Maintenance, Import/Export, Export Recipes/Formulas from the menu.
      • Specify the location and filename for the export file or files.
      • Specify whether to include Nutrition, Overhead and Pictures and Source Documents.
      • Select the recipes to export.
    • To export menus choose Maintenance, Import/Export, Export Menus from the menu.
      • Specify the location and filename for the export file or files.
      • Specify whether to include Nutrition, Overhead and Pictures and Source Documents.
      • Select the menus to export.
  2. Import data to the cloud version.
    • To import recipes/formulas choose Maintenance, Import/Export, Import Recipes/Formulas from the menu.
      • Specify the location and filename of the exported .xml file. If there is an associated .zip file, place it in the same folder.
      • Specify whether to skip or replace existing Recipes/Formulas, Nutrition, Labor and Overhead, and Pictures and Source Documents.
    • To import menus choose Maintenance, Import/Export, Import Menus from the menu.
      • Specify the location and filename of the exported .xml file. If there is an associated .zip file, place it in the same folder.
      • Specify whether to skip or replace existing Menus, Recipes/Formulas, Nutrition, Labor and Overhead, and Pictures and Source Documents.

Transferring Data from Cloud Version to Desktop Version

Note: You cannot use Backup and Restore to transfer data from the cloud version to the desktop version.

This method can be used in either direction - from desktop version to cloud version, or from cloud version to desktop version.

This procedure creates a single-file export with file extension .xml.
